Job Description

Reporting to the director of the UCSF Health School Agreements and the UCSF Health Clinical Fund Flow Programs, this position applies comprehensive knowledge of academic medical center hospital finances, operations, systems, industry domain knowledge and business intelligence practices to structure /lead/prepare high-level, complex analyses related to physician payments, benchmarking, productivity, adjustment and other ad hoc requests which will be used to inform UCSF Health senior leadership. In addition to quantitative and qualitative analyses, assist with problem verification, definition, root-cause analysis and evaluation of alternatives. Assist with all the management of the clinical funds flow model and the School Agreements and provide senior program management. Within the UCSF Health Clinical Funds Flow Clinical and School Agreements, the decision support specialist will assist the director with the management of UCSF Health’s Funds Flow model specifically in advising, solving problems, decision making, developing alternatives, formulating policies and new approaches to implement based on comprehensive knowledge of academic hospital finances and systems, physician operations, physician compensation formulas and benchmarks for the UCSF Medical Centers, Faculty Practice Administration, School of Medicine, Dean’s Office, Department Chairs and Department MSO’s. The analyst will structure and perform complex analyses related to physician and hospital, performance, payments, productivity, and other ad hoc requests which will be used to inform UCSF Health senior leadership. The role will support projects that are complex in nature, requiring a high level of initiative and attention to detail in execution and implementation. This individual must be an independent problem solver, and be able to work in a fast-paced, high intensity environment. Within the School Agreements, the analyst will assist with the management of the agreements, including coordination of budgeting, annual reconciliation process and reporting of the strategic support and purchased services agreements between UCSF Health and the School of Medicine Departments, School of Pharmacy and School of Nursing. The analyst will need to have advanced knowledge of UCSF financial and operational systems, industry domain knowledge and business intelligence practices to prepare the required analyses. Required Qualifications Five to seven years of healthcare (hospital and/or professional) financial analysis experience Bachelor's Degree in Finance/Accounting, or related area and / or equivalent experience / training In-depth understanding of decision support systems, with knowledge of business statistics, quantitative methods, relational databases, business development scorecards, data modeling, and performance and profitability analysis In-depth knowledge of issues and aspects of clinical finance, planning, financial data management, budget development, and business development Proficiency in utilizing the tools to produce comprehensive, studies and actionable intelligence Advanced organizational and project management skills, program management, and the ability to lead a team, prioritize tasks, and see projects through from inception to completion on schedule Advanced interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead projects and teams and collaborate productively on highly-complex projects with key personnel at all professional and technical levels Advanced written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to interpret and convey highly sophisticated technical and financial information in a clear, concise manner, and to make cogent presentations of analyses, reports, and investigation results Advanced problem-solving skills analytical ability, with the ability to run highly complex queries and studies, and in-depth knowledge of documentation and reporting, to collect and analyze financial and performance data, and to produce relevant, meaningful reports, analyses, and forecasts Proven ability to work with complex data sets, formulas and scripts to build impactful reports, develop numerous scenarios, and create accurate projections The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Health locations Preferred Qualifications Experience working with patient financial data in an acute hospital setting.
