POSITION SUMMARY The Surgical Services Operating Room Nurse (OR RN) assumes responsibility and accountability for designated patients undergoing surgical procedures, utilizing the nursing process. Provides patient care according to Marshall Medical Center's (MMC's) standard of practice. Validates pre-operatively, that each patient is physically and emotionally ready for the intended procedure and provides patient care ensuring safety throughout the intra-operative and post-operative phase until patient care has been transferred to the PACU RN or Primary Care Nurse. Maintains good public relations by interacting with patients, visitors, physicians and other staff in a friendly and professional manner, functioning as the patient's advocate at all times. The OR RN oversees the performance of any non-professional, whose activities impact their patient's care and ensures the safe handling of infectious material(s) to protect all patients and employees. The Staff RN of Marshall Medical's Physician and Specialty Clinics coordinates patient care in the outpatient setting enabling physicians to provide the highest quality of care while maximizing a physician's ability to see patients in a timely manner. Coordinates the flow of patients through the clinic, assisting providers with initial patient assessments, performing procedures within the RN scope of practice, providing patient education, triaging phone calls and incoming patient data including lab and radiology results and monitors patients for preventative care needs.
